Navigating The Future Of AI And Fashion In Style!
How’s everyone doing?
This week, we’re diving right into the world of AI and fashion.
Before we delve into AI and fashion, let’s catch up on the latest features in AI tools.
The Latest In The AI Space
Here is what you can expect:
The update enables users to access ChatGPT features within the main interface but eliminates the need to toggle between modes.
It’s now possible to upload PDFs or other documents and chat with them or analyze them, like Claude and other GPT wrappers.
The release is just in time for next week’s OpenAI Dev Day. The event will bring together developers to explore tools and discover new ideas.
The recent updates don’t include plugins as of now. They’re also found in the code that refers to ‘GP-4 Magic Create.’
The update is getting rolled out slowly for ChatGPT users. Don’t worry if you can’t use it yet—just keep hitting the refresh button.
The new features are currently only available to ChatGPT Enterprise plan users.
Okay, now let’s dive deep into how AI Is Changing The Fashion Scene by looking at the 3 main areas of innovation:
1. Experimental Fashion
Pushing beyond the ordinary, experimental fashion is in! Maison Meta’s AI Week in New York is a showcase of AI’s abilities. Through tech, designers used MidJourney to create innovative designs.
Recently, Adobe launched Project Primrose, an interactive dress covered in scales. Making waves in Los Angeles, the dress has been the talk of the town for fashion enthusiasts. Detecting the wearer’s movements, the dress moved in tandem with her actions.
Creative directors and designers now have the ability to simply input details like fabric, color, and texture into a generative AI tool. The results? Captivating designs of different styles. Not to mention, firms cut costs because they don’t have to create expensive product samples. Take the case of China’s AI-based virtual fabric technology for virtual fabric samples which may cut production costs by up to 70%.
Besides cutting costs, AI can help boost revenue. Stats show that luxury customers are willing to pay up to 16% more for personalized recommendations.
“Fashion doesn’t have to be static. It can be dynamic and even interactive.’’
Experimental fashion is leading to an overall improved consumer experience:
2. Consumer Experience
Customers can not only choose but also create the apparel they desire. Take the case of Creator Studio, a platform for producing merch on demand from H&M. Anyone can order apparel matching their preferences. In fact, more than 46% of customers have stated that using AI to create unique designs will improve their perception of a brand. How neat is that?

“Within the fashion education system, people are already learning to design using digital platforms, and that’s becoming a norm now. It’s no longer just an option.’’
Besides creating their own apparel, customers can finally ditch product descriptors and see the actual product. Google Lens, for example, helps them analyze the look of a fabric, and there’s no need to physically visit a store.
We’ve talked about how customers have more power of choice and decision-making flexibility. So, let’s discuss what the fashion industry can do now.
3. Trend Analysis And Supply Chain Sustainability
Trend Analysis:
At the 080 Barcelona Week, 7 fashion trends strutted down the highway: denims, 2000s, "Naïf", Tie Dye Revival, Metallics, and Culottes craze. Thanks to AI, discovering these trends is easier than ever.
Examples of great tools include Designovel and Spot a bot. They help analyse online conversations and use data to extract insights. Let AI do the talking.
Supply Chain Sustainability:
Did you know that customers are prepared to pay 20% more for a socially responsible and sustainable brand? It means the fashion industry needs to take a closer look at their manufacturing processes and use AI to level up their game.
How can you move towards supply chain sustainability? It starts by focusing on producing highly demanded apparel, hence cutting costs associated with overproduction of apparel that customers don’t want. McKinsey’s got the stats: AI can cut inventory costs by up to 18%.
Predictive analytics is a great way to go about the process. It minimises the waste material produced, ensuring sustainability. Check out EDITED, a tool that helps manage internal company data and extract insights.
Besides having the right production priorities, firms must be more conscious about how they can reuse fashion materials. AI algorithms can quickly identify opportunities for repair, reuse, or recycling. It helps reduce waste by finding new ways to use existing products. Considering how 1 in 3 customers are willing to spend 20% more on brands using AI to develop sustainable fabrics, it’s a win-win scenario. Plus, brands investing in AI have the opportunity to generate up to 18% extra in income. Why miss out?

‘’What type of materials we choose, how we process the materials, how we manufacture the materials, how we transport the products—that’s where the biggest chunk of any fashion brand supply chain carbon footprint-that’s where it sits.’’
