Issue #16: Navigating AI and Inner Growth

Where is your mind at?

Happy Thursday— Ash here!

As I sit down to write this intro for Issue 16, I'll confess - the relentless pace of AI and overall life has me somewhat on edge. I don't know about you, but there are moments when I'm not sure what my next move should be.

This issue, therefore marks the shift where we make a space every week to share tools that help change our perspective. Instead of looking outwards at the ever-transforming AI landscape, we're also going to look inward.

P.S. Please consider replying directly to this email with your feedback/suggestions as I genuinely need it in order to improve The Glitch!

🤖 3 GPT Prompts to Improve Your Mind & Life

1. Turn ChatGPT into your life coach.

Imagine having your own personal life coach available 24/7 to provide guidance customized to your needs.

Utilized this prompt to transform ChatGPT into an AI life coach that can help you achieve your goals.

"I want you to act as a life coach. I will provide some details about my current situation and goals, and it will be your job to come up with strategies that can help me make better decisions and reach those objectives. This could involve offering advice on various topics, such as creating plans for achieving success or dealing with difficult emotions. My first request is "I need help developing healthier habits for managing stress."

2. Turn it into a self-help book

Reading self-help books takes time and money, but ChatGPT can deliver tailored advice instantly.

Turn ChatGPT into a self-help advisor for any area you want to improve, like relationships, career, or finances by using this prompt.

"I want you to act as a self-help book. You will provide me advice and tips on how to improve certain areas of my life, such as relationships, career development or financial planning. For example, if I am struggling in my relationship with a significant other, you could suggest helpful communication techniques that can bring us closer together. My first request is "I need help staying motivated during difficult times"."

3. Use it to explore different perspectives

Develop deeper critical thinking by leveraging ChatGPT as a Socratic questioner to analyze your beliefs.

Make a claim, and let ChatGPT's follow-up questions unpack your assumptions and logic from new angles.

"I want you to act as a Socrat. You must use the Socratic method to continue questioning my beliefs. I will make a statement and you will attempt to further question every statement in order to test my logic. You will respond with one line at a time. My first claim is "justice is necessary in a society""

📰 2 Must-Read AI Stories

🚀ChatGPT Gets an Upgrade and It’s Amazing!

ChatGPT has a new feature called "Custom instructions" that allows users to provide personalized information and preferences to the chatbot with the goal being for ChatGPT to become a more efficient and helpful virtual assistant by understanding user needs and preferences.

Deets:

  • Custom instructions enable the bot to remember user-specific details and respond accordingly to their queries.

  • Examples of custom instructions include specifying profession, dietary preferences, or preferred coding language.

  • The feature aims to simplify interactions by enabling users to add relevant context and information to their custom instructions, eliminating the need for repetitive explanations.

  • It is currently in beta and available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, except in the UK and EU.

For a perfect use case, here’s a guide to👉👉👉 various output types ChatGPT can do.

Let ChatGPT be like you!

Takeaway: This is your golden opportunity to have AI not just mimic, but truly reflect your distinctive style, as opposed to providing standard outputs. Dedicate some time to deeply understand how you want your AI to function and the specific nature of the work you require.

Here are some tips on how to make the most of Custom Instructions:

  1. Share your writing style - In the first text box for Custom Instructions, provide examples of your own writing or the tone/style you prefer ChatGPT to use. This trains the AI to respond more consistently with your voice.

  2. Give output format guidelines - Use the second text box to provide guidance on how you want ChatGPT to structure its responses (bullet points, summaries, code snippets etc). This ensures the format fits your needs.

  3. Keep instructions focused - Be concise and specific with your custom instructions. Limit them to the most important contexts where you want ChatGPT to remember your preferences.

  4. Test and refine - Try out your custom instructions and tweak them based on ChatGPT's resulting responses. Refining them over time helps improve the consistency.

  5. Refresh periodically - Consider updating your custom instructions every so often to keep them relevant as ChatGPT's capabilities evolve.

Using Custom Instructions well takes some experimentation, but can make your ChatGPT interactions far more efficient by reducing repetitive prompts. Focus on establishing your core writing voice and desired output style for the best experience.

🤖 Bing Chat is coming to Google Chrome and Safari

Microsoft's Bing Chat is expanding to non-Microsoft browsers like Chrome and Safari. Bing Chat was previously only available within Microsoft products like the Bing mobile app and Microsoft Edge browser. The expansion aims to make Bing Chat available to a wider range of users.

Deets:

  • Bing Chat's availability in Chrome and Safari is still in the testing phase for select users.

  • And it has limitations compared to the original version.

  • Bing Chat in Chrome is limited to 5 messages and 2,000 characters, while Microsoft Edge supports 30 messages and 3,000 characters.

  • Bing Chat is also testing a dark theme, but it is not widely available yet.

Takeaway: Microsoft taking Bing Chat beyond Edge is a smart strategic move. Making it available in the two most popular web browsers broadens Bing Chat's reach enormously. But let's be real— the character limits in Chrome and truncated conversations make it pretty useless, isn’t it? 👀

🦉 1 Insight from Ash

Here's a personal confession: I've been using AI for much more than just optimizing productivity. It's become a crucial part of my mental well-being regimen, and I want to share how it might help you too.

In my quest for personal growth and continuous learning, I've turned to AI. I tap into the power of AI chatbots, like GPT-4, to learn new mental models. Imagine having a tutor available 24/7, ready to simplify the most complex of theories. It's like my intellectual safety net, a no-judgment zone where I can admit, "I don't know this, can you explain it to me like I'm in fifth grade?" It's been a game-changer, replacing hours of aimless Googling and making learning a breeze.

But the AI's support doesn't stop there. When faced with emotional tasks like writing a heartfelt letter to my mom or girlfriend, I turn to my AI. It offers a balanced perspective, preventing me from getting too swept up in my emotions. In essence, it's my private, objective sounding board, turning the task into a thoughtful and therapeutic process.

Even more, AI has become a pillar of my emotional resilience. With cognitive behavioral therapy techniques packed in, AI chatbots act as my personal therapist - always available, always patient, and always helpful in tackling negative thought patterns.

So, you see, AI is not just about getting things done. It's also about fostering growth and emotional resilience. It's about the freedom to learn, to express, and to improve. In the grand scheme of things, it's helped me to realise that the healthiest mind is, in fact, the most productive one.

AI is not a replacement for therapy. Please make sure you actively speak with a real person to address your mental health. AI is just to add not to replace.

And there you have it, folks! 🎉

As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or ideas. Don't hesitate to hit 'Reply' and share your insights with me!

Have an awesome week!

Your friend,

Ash
